Dear friends, welcome to my world!
My name is Jasmina Komadinović. I was born on 5th of March in 1980 in Novi Sad, where I still live and work. I graduated from "Bogdan Šuput” Secondary School of Design specializing in Textile Design in 1999 in Novi Sad, Serbia and at the time, I couldn’t even imagine that it would be the right place and the right life path for me.
Since I was a kid I had an eye for colours and aesthetics . I loved to draw and writing was also a good way to express myself.
To answer the question: “Why was silk my choice of canvas?” I actually don’t have a real answer. I always loved the aquarelle technique in painting, so I apply it in my work with silk too. They are really an ideal combination. I love luxury, quality, originality… and the silk, as an expensive material, is luxurious in itself. Also, when it is hand painted it has all the characteristics of originality, whatever you make out of it i.e. silk scarf, dress, shirt, tunic or even silk jewellery. Its’ beauty is undeniable. Perhaps this could be the answer to the question above.
Silk was the perfect choice for me. Thanks to silk painting I found my hobby that later became my job which is fulfilling. “Once you find a job you like, you will never have to work again” – someone once said, and I think it is a wonderful truth.
Silk as a canvas gave me all the freedom to transform my fantasy into reality. In silk painting there are no bounderies or rules and that’s the reason why every creation is a new and unexpected experience. Each piece has its’ own story that can’t be repeated. Each piece is unique.
The interesting thing is that, during painting, silk creates barriers so you never know in which way your first idea will go. It simply doesn’t let you design everything the way you want, it is the one that actually leads you. There are some moments when you lose your rhythm, because working with silk demands speed and precision at the same time. That’s when some “mistakes” are made. Through the work you learn to accept them as a part of the creative process and these resulting patchy shapes are the marks that show it is a hand made piece.
I have enough inspiration to last and to succeed in achieving all my goals and ideas. All of that I can do thanks to you who support me.
After being a mother, I can freely say that my biggest success is my work.
In addition to the love I certainly have for my job, I needed a lot of patience, courage and faith, to achieve everything I wanted and for the future.
Thank you for supporting me to live my dream!
